Job Description

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Trust Officer to play a foundational leadership role in the firm’s largest and most strategically important practice area.

This role goes well beyond traditional trust administration. The Trust Officer will help institutionalize and professionalize our existing fiduciary practice, partner with firm leadership to define and execute a long-term growth strategy, and take a leading role in expanding the practice across Virginia, North Carolina, and additional states over time.

Key Responsibilities – Fiduciary Administration & Oversight

  • Serve as Trust Officer for matters where the firm acts as trustee, executor, agent, or in other fiduciary capacities.
  • Oversee and administer complex trust and estate matters.
  • Ensure fiduciary duties are carried out with the highest standards of integrity and care.
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, CPAs, and outside advisors.

Key Responsibilities – Practice Institutionalization & Excellence

  • Design and implement repeatable systems, processes, and standards.
  • Develop workflows, templates, and controls to support scale.
  • Identify and mitigate fiduciary, operational, and reputational risk.
  • Improve consistency, transparency, and client experience.

Key Responsibilities – Strategy & Growth

  • Partner with firm leadership to define the strategic vision for the fiduciary practice.
  • Identify opportunities for geographic and service-line expansion.
  • Support business development and referral relationships.
  • Help position the firm as a trusted fiduciary solution for complex clients.

Key Responsibilities – Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop fiduciary and administrative team members.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, Operations, and Finance.
  • Contribute to firm-wide initiatives supporting scalability and excellence

Location & Work Environment

This role will work closely with firm leadership across Virginia and North Carolina. A hybrid model is available, with in-person presence expected as needed.
