Timothy A. Nordgren

Timothy A. Nordgren joined Hook Law in 2026, and he leads the firm’s Chapel Hill, NC office. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a distinction recognizing experienced trust and estate attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional skill and significant contributions to the field.

For more than 30 years, Tim has helped families by preparing comprehensive estate plans consisting of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance health care directives tailored to meet their unique needs. He represents clients with legal needs ranging from straightforward to highly complex, including many with significant income, gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax exposure. For high-net-worth clients, he has significant experience preparing various types of irrevocable trusts, including multi-generational trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, intentionally defective grantor trusts, and spousal lifetime access trusts. He also has a personal interest in assisting special needs individuals and their families, having grown up with a sibling who suffered from a significant disability.

Tim represents executors and trustees by guiding them through their fiduciary duties in compliance with the terms of the legal documents in which they have been named, as well as state and federal law. He also assists businesses with formation and succession planning.

A frequent speaker on topics related to estate planning and estate and trust administration, Tim educates both the public and other professionals on appropriate planning strategies. He has a strong commitment to the legal profession and his community, having served on a variety of bar-related committees and as a board director for several local tax-exempt organizations.

When he is not in the office, Tim enjoys reading and spending quality time with his wife and children, and their rescue dogs, Polly and Otis.
